Costume design and making is all-consuming. From researching period detail down to the last button or clasp, to couture cutting ‘on the stand’ and meticulously sewing and dressing. The attention to detail, the passion for fabrics, the versatility of the work and the opportunity to work individually and collaboratively, provide a constant creative spark and inspiration for Francesca Jane Studio and its network of talented associates.

 

Skills

  • Design skills – research, sketchbook work, illustration

  • Working knowledge of costume history

  • Costume construction

  • Pattern cutting

  • Sewing skills – domestic and industrial machines/ hand sewing

  • Fabric breaking down/ manipulation

  • Dressing

  • Mask making

  • Art and textiles skills – printing techniques (screen-printing etc)

  • Essential Photography and Photoshop skills
